Do you know the 1 sure-fire way to improve your performance? December 6, 2007

Cold still has it’s grip on me, but it’s loosening. I’ll probably get one workout in this week, on Friday.

But until then, did anyone else catch this NY Times article today, “I’m not really running, I’m not really running…”? I can clearly see how to apply this to a run or a bike-ride, but I’m not so certain about the workouts I typically do which are a sequence of many different movements, and the general idea being to max each of them out. I’m wondering if focusing on the counting of each rep would work?

Does anybody have any experience with this?

I haven’t read the article. But one mantra we use in yoga is “I am balance. I am strength. I am flexibility.” It really works for some people.

Glad you’re feeling a bit better!

Wow, yeah. I was going to post about the article today! It was interesting and I’ve used the mind over body tricks often when running. Now, I use the method of mind-trickery when weight lifting too.
I think about how I only have so many reps to do, make it not a big deal, before lifting the weight. Then I just count each one and imagine myself a big burly strong body builder… and I’m able to finish strong. Just by imagining my goals or how strong my body is, I’ve been able to lift heavier for longer reps.
Hope that helps!
