So that’s what the Monkey on your back looks like! August 18, 2008

Over the weekend, I took Boy Scout Troop 624 on a little hike.

We hit the loop of Hyas Lake to Deception Pass, and South-ish along the Pacific Crest Trail to Squaw Lake and then back to the Trailhead at Tucquala Meadows. We did this in two days, although we had planned it for three. I guess the Scouts were in the mood for more on Sunday. Which turned out to be pretty good since we were treated to a massive lightning storm on the way home that appeared to be coming a little too close to our hiking location:

For this trip, I had on a 50 lbs pack. I try pretty hard to keep the weight down, and the problem is that as you add more days, you increase weight because of food. Plus, as the Scoutmaster, I gotta carry a few things because one has to be prepared!

At any rate, here’s what my monkey looks like:

I paid good money for this monkey, and I like it most of the time. I’m fairly picky when it comes to my gear, and this Osprey pack works for me. As does the Marmot Tent. And the Dozier Buffalo River Hunter sheath knife. Still, 50 extra pounds is 50 extra pounds. Made for a good longer-duration workout that definitely worked its magic on me - just a *little* sore today.

Also, we got to meet Congressman Jay Inslee on the trail. How cool is it to see a member of your State’s Congressional Delegation out communing with nature???

re: Sore - Nope, not planning on hitting the gym today! ;-)

Marcelo has a very clear post of what he does not like in resumes and interviews based on his current searches. What's great about this is that he's the CEO at a great little Seattle Start-up, so it's a great view into his mind. And that of other start-up CEOs.
