Canoing Hood Canal September 15, 2008
Posted by hardly OtherWeekend trip with the Troop, this time canoing Hood Canal for 5.75 miles. This was not anything close to high exertion, but we were out here paddling for a while. The hard part was that the position one sits in while in a canoe is a bit unusual from our norm in this modern world.
The amazing stat was the min hr: 44

How would a great recruiter find their next job? September 15, 2008
Posted by hardly Job Hunt ProcessEvery endeavor has a crowd, and a few who are way out there ahead of everyone else. There are Developers who design/write operating systems, and then there's Linus Torvalds. There are photographers, and then there's Annie Leibovitz. There are fighter pilots, and then there's John Boyd.
There are a number of really outstanding recruiters in the U.S. today, and Jim Stroud is one of them. I'll let you discover why ;-).
Recently, he wrote three posts about how to find a job. He's written these pieces from a very interesting perspective, and he gives a little hint into the world of on-line sourcing. I'm sending this your way because he has some great recommendations of activities you can do that might just help you find a role, and which are probably nothing like what you're doing right now:
How to Find a Job (when the economy sucks) Part 1 of 3
How to Find a Job (when the economy sucks) Part 2 of 3
How to Find a Job (when the economy sucks) Part 3 of 3
P.S. Almost forgot to add that the orientation is all about recruiters looking for work. For you Developer-types, you're going to need to modify the search strings a bit, but you'll pick it up quick because you learn fast... ;-)

After I had caught my breath from this, our trainer comes over and says to Chad and I: Your next goal is to hit 300 reps. And after that, you should be thinking about upping the weight until you hit 100 lbs.
Always nice to have goals!

Canoing Hood Canal, the return September 15, 2008
Posted by hardly OtherBeautiful day for this sort of thing. Saw all kinds of wildlife: Chum Salmon heading upstream, crows, seaguls, eagles, vultures, seals (including a baby seal that swam under the canoe), all good stuff.
The return trip was a bit faster, and a bit longer, as evidenced by the HR monitor. The min heart rate reading was 56. Maybe that 44 wasn’t a fluke? Regardless, a bit interesting.
O.K. exercise, but wouldn’t call it a workout exactly. Still, 2 hours of even low-level exertion counts!
