For me, the next big thing I need to work on in my workouts is to develop my kipping pull-up. This is an important skill to add to my capabilities because this little maneuver gives one a much greater capacity to do more pull-ups in a given amount of time. And, I feel highly compelled to improve my pull-up times!
Anyway, here’s what we did at the Gang-up on Saturday:
Warmup:
- 2x:
- 40 Kettlebell Swings @ 20 kg
- 400 M Run
- 60 Wallballs @ 20#
- 25 GDH Situps
Workout:
- 800 M Run
- Max Lift: Dumbbell Bench Press
- 3 reps @ 2 60# dbs
- 3 reps @ 2 70# dbs
- 1/2 @2 80# dbs (that would be a failed rep!)
- 800 M Run
- 6:00 of Pull-ups (here, I just worked on my kipping pull-ups and didn’t count any of the reps, just focused on form)

New torture device: Paralettes September 8, 2008

Parelettes are a small version of parallel bars. They let you increase your range of motion on some movements, or allow you to do variations on a theme of others. Handy to have if you have limited space to work out, or to make people talk. I think they have a whole lot of them down at Gitmo, but I have a tendency towards conspiracy theories.
Warmup:
- 20 Bodyweight Squats (for range of motion)
- 30 Paralette Tuck reps

- 30 DB Push Press @ 2 x 30 lbs

So close that in some things, they are better than me, and in others, I’m better than they are. This can be really good. Today, it was distracting. But, a good lesson in focus. Must stay focused on the next rep!

My trainer & I had a chat about it this am, and we agreed that it probably occurred in a one-handed movement that had a twisting component to it. So he made sure that the work we did today did not include this, lowered the weights a bit, and away we went!
Warmup:
- 30 Push-presses @ 45 lbs.
- 30 Push-ups
- 30 Push-presses @ 65 lbs.
- 30 Push-ups.
Workout:
- 100 Box Jumps for time: 4:54
- Dumbbell Bench Press @ 60 lbs: 10-8-5-3 (I had to drop to a 50 lbs for the last 3)

- 50 V-ups
- 50 Kettlebell Snatches @ 20kg
